Jianghu Survival Producer Accuses NetEase of Stealing His Game Concept After Sharing Ideas — Claims ¥20M Lost to Naraka: Bladepoint's Creator

A game you've probably never heard of, a producer crying foul over ¥20 million in losses, and a NetEase star producer getting called out by name — today's drama has all the ingredients of a classic Chinese gaming industry exposé.

The producer of 'Jianghu Survival' (江湖求生), a martial arts battle royale game, recently published a lengthy post on social media taking direct aim at Guan Lei, the producer behind NetEase's hit 'Naraka: Bladepoint' (永劫无间). According to the post, between June and December 2018, the Jianghu Survival producer — strapped for cash and seeking a publishing deal — entered discussions with Guan Lei about a potential partnership with NetEase. During these talks, he reportedly submitted his game demo, core design philosophy, and project documentation. However, after Naraka was officially greenlit in November 2018, Guan Lei allegedly kept requesting more project materials before suddenly cutting off all communication.

The producer claims Jianghu Survival eventually collapsed due to funding issues, and Naraka: Bladepoint's subsequent success was the final nail in the coffin. He alleges he was 'scammed' by NetEase and Guan Lei — his creative vision stolen while ¥20 million (roughly $2.8M USD) in R&D investment went down the drain. The leaked chat screenshots show the producer absolutely eviscerating Guan Lei by name, throwing shade with zero filter.

The post quickly blew up on NGA (China's biggest gaming forum), but the community reaction wasn't exactly a sympathy parade. The top-voted comment cut right to the bone: 'You claim ¥20M in damages, say you have evidence, and after careful deliberation... you chose to write an online exposé instead of pressing charges or filing a lawsuit?' This sentiment echoed across the thread — if you've got the receipts, why go to Weibo instead of court?

Veteran players provided some important context. Jianghu Survival launched around the same time as another martial arts BR title, 'Wuxia Man' (武侠乂). Back then, rumor had it one game would go to Tencent and the other to NetEase. Tencent ended up investing in Wuxia Man, while NetEase passed on Jianghu Survival. But here's the kicker — multiple players pointed out that Jianghu Survival had its own fatal flaws. It was a mobile-to-PC port (手游移植PC端, commonly called 'shou gai duan'), and the PC experience was apparently catastrophic. On top of that, 2018 battle royale + mobile port + small indie studio = stacked debuffs.

Another camp questioned whether 'idea theft' even constitutes a real claim. As one commenter put it: 'How do you prove someone stole your creative concept? You can't just say "I thought of it first so nobody else is allowed to." ' Some suspected the whole thing might be clout-chasing — using Naraka's fame to generate buzz for a dead project. But defenders fired back that big companies ripping off indie ideas is 'rampant' in the industry, and the asymmetry makes it worse: 'They can steal your ideas openly because it's impossible to prove. For a small studio, it's devastating — you came looking for a partner, and they took your ideas and ghosted you.'

One particularly sharp comment drove home a brutal truth: 'Your idea is your only asset. If you hand it over to a business partner before signing anything, do you really think someone with half a brain would play fair with you?' In other words — no NDA, no leverage. That's Business 101.

As of now, the post continues to gain traction, with many players bookmarking it for future developments — 'keeping my eyes peeled, feels like there's more tea to spill.' That said, objectively speaking, Jianghu Survival's own quality issues are hard to ignore. The combination of being a 2018 mobile-to-PC martial arts BR from a tiny studio was always going to be an uphill battle. Whether NetEase or Guan Lei will respond remains to be seen. Grab your popcorn — this one's far from over.
