The newly released gacha character Yinzhi (Silver Branch) in Honkai: Star Rail blew up the community the moment she dropped — her Ultimate's 6 random-target hits can ALL dump into a 1-HP trash mob while the 200K-HP boss stands there completely untouched. Welcome to the "ultimate corpse-beating" controversy.
According to the original post, Yinzhi's Ultimate works in two phases: first a full AoE nuke, then 6 random single-target hits on surviving enemies. The problem? Those 6 hits are assigned all at once before any damage is dealt — meaning if a mob has 1 HP left, all 6 hits will still target it instead of redirecting to the boss. Think of it as 6 snipers firing simultaneously at pre-assigned targets.

Compare this to Jing Yuan's Lightning Lord, which performs 10 separate target checks — each hit re-evaluates and redirects to a living enemy after killing its target. The irony? Both skills are described as "bounce" (弹射) damage in-game, yet they behave completely differently.

The comment section split fast. One user tried to defend it as "just how game mechanics work" — death triggers and follow-ups only resolve after the full attack sequence completes. Got immediately clapped back: "Jing Yuan's Lightning Lord doesn't corpse-beat. 10 hits, 10 target checks, retargets on kill. Yinzhi is 6 hits with ONE target check, damage just gets eaten. How are you defending this?"
Another player gave the ELI5 version: "Yinzhi's ult is 6 people shooting at once. Jing Yuan's Lightning Lord is one guy shooting 10 times." They also pointed out that Jingliu's E1 literally has an anti-corpse-beating mechanic (overflow damage gets +100% redirected), proving miHoYo knew this was a design issue.

Others went full savage: "Classic lazy coding — the skill says 6 separate hits, so each should have its own target check. Dev got lazy and did one check for all 6." "Low EQ: the new programmer sucks. High EQ: all hands are on Zenless Zone Zero now, production capacity went there."
Some skeptics questioned whether the outrage was even real: "Is anyone actually complaining? I checked miHoYo's official forums and Bilibili, nothing. Watch this turn out to be only Yinzhi mains who care." The reply? "Her banner revenue didn't even beat Tencent Video — barely anyone pulled for her in the first place."
The OP updated with confirmation: Yinzhi's skill description literally says "bounce" (弹射), same as Jing Yuan, so this IS a bug, not intended design. The meme "fast-forward to them not fixing the bug and just changing the description instead" is already circulating — complete with Montserrat Mountain comparisons.
Regardless of whether this ends up classified as a bug or a "feature," the community verdict is clear: this mechanic is braindead. A brand-new rate-up character losing the majority of her Ult damage to corpse-beating is not a great look for version QA, to put it mildly.
