Nintendo Addresses Mobile Game Shutdowns: Not About Profit, But Driving Traffic to Consoles

0 热度

Nintendo recently confirmed that its mobile gaming division isn't primarily focused on profit, but rather serves as a marketing engine. Following the shutdown of 'Dragalia Lost' this week, a Nintendo spokesperson stated that their core strategy is to expand awareness of Nintendo's IP to audiences who haven't yet purchased a Switch, effectively using mobile games as a gateway to their ecosystem. While games like 'Fire Emblem Heroes' have generated significant revenue, others function mainly as brand vehicles.

The community, however, isn't buying the narrative. NGA users have widely ridiculed the statement, calling it a classic case of 'if we succeed, we're geniuses; if we fail, we're just testing the waters.' Users pointed out that 'Fire Emblem Heroes' relies heavily on gacha mechanics, making the claim that they don't care about mobile profit seem like a 'face-saving' excuse ('嘴硬', a Chinese internet slang for being stubborn or refusing to admit failure). Many are skeptical about whether these mobile titles actually convert players into console buyers, noting that it's a weak attempt to explain away poor mobile performance.
