Remember all those people who swore "community drama won't affect revenue"? Well, how's that aging? Roco Kingdom's new season barely started before its revenue ranking began free-falling — by May 28th it had already dropped out of the top 20. Screenshots don't lie.

According to the revenue charts shared by players, the May 29th and 30th data shows Roco Kingdom sitting at a dismal #31 on the overall app charts. Some commenters even joked that "Genshin Impact is showing up to flex on us now" — implying that a game once considered inferior is now overtaking it. This is a stark contrast to what was previously a healthy upward trajectory.

The comment section erupted into two clearly divided camps. One side argues this is simply a monetization design problem — "Does anyone actually spend money on this game beyond the battle pass and outfit updates?" Many players believe Roco Kingdom simply lacks meaningful gacha/P2W hooks, so a post-launch-week dip is perfectly normal. The consensus on Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) mirrors this: "no spending incentives, so revenue decline is expected."
But the other camp points the finger squarely at the game's prior community controversies. One highly upvoted comment nailed it: "Declaring victory or defeat too early is a mistake... Each round of drama drives away a chunk of players, makes more people sit on the fence, and tanks the spending motivation of anyone who read about it. This game was on an upward trajectory — this controversy wave seems to have chopped that growth period right off." This resonated with many.
Some players shared personal testimonials of rage-quitting spending. One said they dropped 2,000 yuan in Season 1 and considers it "funeral money for the game." Another player alleged they were banned for 6 days simply for neutrally summarizing what the devs had done — their posts and replies were mass-deleted, including even comments in "passing-the-torch" threads that just told others to wait and observe. Their verdict? "Roco Kingdom devs had it coming."
The comments also touched on even more sensitive topics — a controversial gesture resembling a Korean cult symbol appearing on female characters during PvP, and alleged claims that certain player groups organized spending boycotts because the devs didn't add a "duck sitting" pose for male characters. Hard to verify, but certainly adding fuel to the fire.
For now, the revenue decline is an undeniable fact. Whether it's a "normal seasonal lull" or the "long-term damage of controversy blowback" probably won't be clear until next season. But one thing is certain: mass-deleting posts and silencing critics does absolutely nothing to help revenue — it only angers players and generates more drama.
