Overseas Genshin Community Organizes Gaza Charity With Free Art Commissions — But NGA Can't Stop Asking: Has HoYoverse Donated?

0 热度

When a game's cultural footprint grows large enough, it stops being 'just a game' — and Genshin Impact is proving that once again. Recently, overseas Genshin fans organized a community-driven charity event for Palestinian civilians in Gaza. The concept is genuinely creative: donate to Gaza relief through any verified channel, show your donation receipt to a participating fan artist, and receive a free art commission in return. The artists volunteer their time and skills purely out of goodwill.

It should have been a heartwarming community story. But when an NGA user reposted the news to the forum's drama section (瓜版, the go-to board for spicy takes), the comments quickly veered into familiar territory. The top-voted reply cut straight to the point: 'This is nice. So… has miHoYo donated?' Another user went harder: 'How much has miHoYo (米桑, a slightly sarcastic nickname for the company) actually donated? Are they really gonna leech off their own players' charity efforts?'

Things got more sensitive from there. One commenter revealed that a previous post about the same event had apparently been nuked: 'Wasn't there another post about this? What happened to it? Did some Z-word people mass-report it?' Another user confirmed, saying they could see their own reply in their history but the original thread had vanished. They added: 'I fully support this kind of event, but will this post get deleted too?'

Not everyone was cynical, though. One user urged people to stop raining on the parade: 'This is a good thing. No need to be a buzzkill right now — don't be like those toxic fans (仙÷).' A more nuanced take acknowledged: 'The Genshin brand gives some people a reason to donate, and that's enough. miHoYo has no obligation to donate, but if they don't, they also don't deserve credit just because their players did.' The user couldn't resist one final jab: 'Some people really took "hate on miHoYo for everything" to its logical extreme.'

Some comments were darkly humorous. One user quipped: 'This is a genuine threat to US national security this time. Though the real question is how to actually get supplies into Gaza.' Another raised the same logistical concern: 'Genuine question — how do you actually get the donations to the people in Gaza?'

The core tension here is clear: a wholesome fan initiative deserves praise, yet the debate around whether HoYoverse should take a stance — combined with the alleged history of related posts getting scrubbed — casts a shadow over what should've been an uncomplicated feel-good story. Is charity the community's business alone, or should the company behind the IP also put its money where its players' mouths are? There's no clean answer to that one.
