Genshin Impact Music Director's Name Vanishes From v4.6 OST Credits — Players Fear the Original Music Team Is Toast

0 热度

The music director of Genshin Impact is slowly vanishing from the game's OST credits — and the last time this happened, it was the prelude to an official departure.

To understand the weight of this gossip, you need the backstory. Chen Zhiyu was the musical mastermind behind Genshin Impact. When he joined miHoYo (HoYoverse), the first person he brought on board was his business partner Yuan Dimeng. Together, they built the musical foundation of Genshin from scratch. But starting last year, players noticed Chen's name appearing less and less on Sumeru OST credits — some albums had him credited on just a single track (the 3.4 desert OST, for example). By September 2023, Chen officially announced his departure, and Yuan took over as music director.

Now the same pattern is playing out with Yuan. OP points out that in the v4.4 Chenyu Valley OST, Yuan was already only responsible for one map track. And in the newly announced v4.6 OST? He has zero credits on any map music at all. His only appearance is as a co-composer on the Arlecchino weekly boss BGM — and that's it.

OP offers a compelling theory: reliable leakers previously confirmed that Arlecchino's storyline was reworked, with her weekly boss fight originally planned for v4.2. This means the boss music was likely completed even before the Chenyu Valley OST. Since Arlecchino's music was always Yuan's responsibility, him composing that track makes perfect sense — but it also suggests his involvement essentially ended there.

OP predicts that when the Natlan region launches, we'll see yet another 'farewell from miHoYo' announcement, and the original music founding team of Genshin Impact will cease to exist entirely. Based on current composition volume, the next in line for the music director role would reportedly be Jiang Yijun.

The post also addresses a separate drama: some suspected troll account on overseas platforms had been spreading similar information on Twitter. OP clarified that this person is likely a memelord from a notorious Chinese forum who saw OP's original post (since deleted by moderators) back in March and simply repackaged it for clout — don't use that as corroboration.

The comment section is a masterclass in calling out future copium. One highly upvoted commenter nailed the predictable script: 'When Chen Zhiyu left, miHoYo stans (mxz, 米孝子) scrambled to prove he was overrated and that HoYoverse's music would be fine without him. If Yuan leaves too, they'll just run the exact same playbook all over again. Can't wait.'

Others questioned whether this even qualifies as gossip. One user wrote, 'How is employee turnover even drama now? Who actually cares about this?' Another was more pointed: 'This isn't even a confirmed departure — it's speculation that someone MIGHT leave. And people are treating it like breaking news?' Meanwhile, a more cynical take connected it to the broader industry trend: 'With the entire gaming industry doing mass layoffs, maybe even the rich guys are running out of rice. They spend billions on marketing but can't retain their core talent?'

But perhaps the most devastating comment came from a player who wrote bluntly: 'After Chen left, Genshin's music already dropped to mediocre tier. No one else was as important as him.' If Yuan follows suit, that comment transforms from harsh criticism into grim prophecy.

As of now, miHoYo has made no official statement regarding these speculations. Whether this truly is 'history repeating itself' — well, we'll probably find out when Natlan drops.
