So you thought the devs would finally give WA2000 a proper ML (master-love, i.e., romantic player-character) storyline? Think again. The newly leaked WA2000 event story in Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium left players absolutely floored — there is literally zero Commander presence throughout the entire event.
Instead, the narrative is packed with interactions between WA2000 (in-game name: Marczilla/玛绮朵) and Springfield (春田, who runs an in-game café). Players immediately clocked the dynamic: "Marzilla treats the shop owner so differently~" — the tone is so suggestive that the community is calling this a full-on yuri (girls' love) CP ship.
What really sent ML fans into a meltdown was the wording in the actual story text. The original poster quoted key lines from the event: "As long as both sides maintain communication, the café members will surely get to see the Commander soon." And: "If there's an opportunity in the future, we can tell the Commander about this — even though everyone left Griffin for their own reasons, some things will never change." The story doesn't dare mention a single concrete timeline, and the Commander only appears in vague 'maybe someday' platitudes.
The top-voted reply nailed it: "They didn't dare set any specific date, same as the Type 95 situation. Zero Commander involvement whatsoever. Come on everyone, time to ship Springfield x WA2000 yuri!" The referenced Type 95 is another beloved ML character whose event story was previously rewritten to remove the Commander — a move that already sparked major controversy.

One player posted a screenshot sarcastically captioned "ML!", but the comments immediately pushed back: "This content doesn't reflect ML anywhere, and they don't even dare pin down the timeline." Even the so-called 'sweet moment' in the screenshot was questioned for being ambiguously framed — "Is it me running after you, or me running while on the phone with you? Hard to tell."
The problem goes way beyond just WA2000. Comments quickly unearthed a deeper pattern: "How messed up must the G36, Type 9, and Type 97 stories have been for them to be rewritten into 'light ML' with minimal romance?" An insider claim surfaced that a character connected to Type 9, named Fei (绯), was "apparently originally male, got cut and was bundled with Type 97 into a side story" — suggesting even character gender was altered to fit the yuri direction.
The community's assessment of Sunborn's strategy was brutal. One commenter sarcastically quipped: "Awesome, ML fans are broke and demanding, serves them right. So when's the original Type 95 version coming back?" Others analyzed the yuri play: "Springfield, WA2000, and G36 grouped together — anyone can see they're selling yuri." Another mocked Yu Zhong's pace: "Trench warfare, huh? Thought Yu Zhong's summer offensive would be more aggressive."
Even 416 — the franchise's iconic poster girl — seems to be on thin ice. One player lamented: "If Yu Zhong doesn't want every character to be ML, at least stop butchering the popular ML ones. Is 416 literally the last card left?" The reply was devastating: "416 has her own dedicated G11. ML lovers, find your happiness elsewhere."
From Type 95 to WA2000, from G36 to Type 9 and Type 97 — one beloved ML character after another is getting the Commander erased from their story in GFL2. Player patience is being ground down with each new event. As one commenter perfectly summarized: "You can always count on Yu Zhong's legendary wisdom." Whether that's praise or sarcasm is a question only Sunborn themselves can't seem to figure out.
