A gacha game hasn't even launched yet, and its female character art has already been caved on and redesigned — yes, you read that right. 归龙潮 (Gui Long Chao) just delivered another classic circus for the CN gacha community.
It all started when Weibo's female gaming community — derisively called 'jimei' (集美, a mocking term for certain vocal female players) or 'xxn' on NGA — reportedly expressed displeasure over a female character's outfit design in 归龙潮. The devs then allegedly modified the character art. The OP posted before-and-after comparison shots:

The OP's verdict: 'The game isn't even out and the character design already got attacked into changing.' They also took a swipe at another ongoing drama from the 尘白禁区 (Snowbreak) forum section — where someone was claiming a removed character was reported by male players for being 'too sexy.' The OP shot back: 'Only someone with xxn brainworms would think male players would report a waifu for being too hot.'
The NGA comment section erupted instantly. A top-voted reply sarcastically exclaimed 'OMG the redesign is even MORE sexy now' — implying the devs overcorrected in the worst way possible. Another user was confused: 'The title says 归龙潮, but I clicked in and found Snowbreak drama — where's the actual tea?' Fair point, since the original post managed to drag two games into one mess.
But the comments weren't entirely one-sided. Some users genuinely thought the redesign looked better: 'Am I the only one who thinks the new version is more normal?' Another replied: 'Looks fine to me, go jimei go.' One commenter even took a pragmatic business angle: 'At least they're not bait-and-switching players and then pivoting the whole direction, forcing sunk-cost victims to keep playing.' The subtext being: better to know the game's bias upfront than get burned later.
The mockery, however, was far louder. 'Didn't 归龙潮 already pledge allegiance to the xxn faction? Is this their loyalty oath?' one user quipped. Others broke out the wordplay, redubbing the game '龟笼巢' (Turtle Cage Nest, a pun on the game's name) and saying it 'can go sit at the Potato 2 table' — a reference to another gacha that tanked over similar controversies. One particularly blunt commenter claimed: 'Anyone who played CBT2 knows 归龙潮 is full-on xxn territory — that storyline and character writing could only come from a female brain.'
Some users zoomed out to critique the broader 'guochao' (国潮, Chinese-aesthetic) gacha trend: 'These days guochao just means qipao dresses, tiny sunglasses, and xxn vibes.' And the mic-drop closer from one user who simply said: 'Gui Long Chao? Pass. Just another little firework of 2024.'
