Collab characters being meta-defining must-pulls is already outrageous — but the art quality being suspected AI slop on top of that? NIKKE's Re:Zero collab is delivering a double whammy of 'forced to whale for stats' and 'insulted by the visuals.'
In the past, developer SU (Shift Up) had a reputation for making collab characters niche — useful in specific scenarios but never essential. You could skip them without feeling too bad. This Re:Zero collab shattered that pattern completely. When Rem's skill kit was revealed yesterday, players were stunned: she's a PvE god-tier support who heals, buffs, and deals damage all at once — a triple-threat package. The collective sigh of relief was 'at least Rem is strong,' while the more 'mid-looking' Emilia (EMT) seemed like an easy skip.
But when Emilia's banner went live today, everyone got clapped. Testing revealed her energy regeneration is the highest tier in the entire game, catapulting her straight to PvP T0 must-pull status. Previously only three permanent characters had this level of energy charging, and they were all sub-DPS supports — Emilia is an AoE nuke. The OP's verdict: 'Just slam the gas pedal already.'

While the numbers are maxed out, the art quality hit rock bottom. Screenshots show the 400-yuan (~$55) roulette skin is suspected AI-generated, and the 3D character model was roasted as 'literally just swapping the head onto a borrowed outfit.' One player asked: 'What is this hideous illustration? Is this how NIKKE treats its collab characters?'
A commenter in the second reply nailed the frustration: the devs didn't bother polishing the skins despite low-effort art compared to previous collabs. They're just banking on two overpowered characters to milk players dry. Even the paid skins look bad — Emilia's burst animation fingers are janky. And next month brings the weapon shard system, so as one player put it: 'The car doors are welded shut and the gas pedal is floored — full speed toward the cliff.'
The AI art debate added fuel to the fire. One player revealed that people in their group chats were saying 'this is definitely not AI, you're doing a digital witch hunt, can't handle any criticism.' Another claimed 'SU has never used AI at all.' The community response was brutal: 'These people are completely domesticated — you could defecate on their face and they'd say it smells great and tell everyone else not to complain.' Someone else fired back with the ultimate zinger: 'Has it occurred to them that if it ISN'T AI, that makes it even worse? Even AI draws better than this.'
One commenter cut straight to the soul of the matter: 'When discussing meta, everyone says don't forget why you started playing NIKKE — turns out the devs forgot first.' Another represented the rational player camp: 'I don't PvP, so no Emilia. I don't do solo raids, so no Rem. Stopping my spending until the weapon system launches, then I'll decide if I'm quitting.'
Even the Re:Zero rights holder (Tappei Nagatsuki) caught strays: 'He's completely checked out too — Re:Zero is basically the collab bus at this point, but at least the licensor used to actually review the collabs. Now they just cash the check and don't care.' One particularly heated player summed up the value proposition: 'AI-generated waifu art is 10,000x better than your Arabic mummy wrap. The game isn't even that fun — average player spending is already over $170. Isn't that enough for you?'
TL;DR for this collab: the devs cranked the character power to the ceiling to force you to pull, then buried the art quality in the basement so you can't even feel good about it. Classic SU — never disappoints. In the worst possible way.
