Genshin Impact's New Character Spotted With Eyebrow Piercing Detail — Players Accuse Dev of Turning Waifu Into a Personal 'Meat Suit'

0 热度

Zoom in on three images, and one tiny detail blew up the entire Genshin Impact community — on the eyebrow of the newest character Jiaming, something appeared that doesn't belong on a normal character design.

It all started with an event promotional image. At first glance, Jiaming's eyebrow area looks perfectly normal. But eagle-eyed players zoomed into the event art and discovered what appears to be a piercing mark right on the eyebrow — strikingly similar to the real-world 'eyebrow piercing' (眉钉, méidīng). Even more damning: the same detail is visible on the in-game 3D model at the exact same spot.

The original poster suggested this might be a nod to the 'eyebrow piercing' as a trendy fashion statement. The source was credited to NGA's infamous 'Insider Bar' (内鬼吧) — a subforum notorious for datamining and leaking unreleased game content.

But the comment section had zero interest in treating this as a fashion homage. A top-voted reply cut straight to the point: 'Isn't this just the producer Jiaming's personal meat suit?' (皮套人, pítàorén) — Chinese gacha community slang for when a game character is essentially a developer's self-insert, projecting their real-world appearance, personality, or even personal quirks onto a fictional persona. Another commenter doubled down: 'Because this Jiaming IS a miHoYo employee's self-insert.'

One particularly colorful analogy compared the behavior to 'a dog marking its territory with urine' — the idea being that certain devs can't resist leaving personal stamps on their work in ways that make players uncomfortable. Others joked that while the character's real-world counterpart has never shown their face, 'their resistance (to pain) must be incredibly high' — a sly jab suggesting there might be more piercings hidden somewhere. Someone else quipped: 'Wow, a 30-year veteran recruit,' riffing on the character's in-game backstory.

Not everyone was up in arms, though. One commenter admitted they couldn't understand what the fuss was about: 'So what if there's an eyebrow piercing? What's this about paying tribute to piercing culture — is there actually a problem here?' Others thought the mark looked more like a beauty mark (mole) than a piercing. Another player wondered: 'Am I out of the loop? Is this even drama?'

But the angry voices clearly dominated. One reply was blunt: 'Mixing personal crap into the game — spit on it as you walk by, good riddance!' Another commenter preemptively predicted the official response: 'Waiting for someone to claim eyebrow piercings are traditional culture, then everyone in this thread is done for' — a sarcastic nod to miHoYo's history of justifying controversial character designs through 'cultural research' narratives.

As of writing, miHoYo has not commented on the eyebrow detail. But judging by the firestorm in the comment section, this tiny piercing (or mole) has become yet another flashpoint in the ongoing 'meat suit' controversy. Whether it's an artistic flourish or one particular designer's personal signature — well, only the person behind the character knows for sure.

Meanwhile, one commenter in the 16th floor was still trying to work out the logic: 'Got it — the lead producer Jiaming doesn't have a ding.' Wait — did they mean 'ding' as in piercing, or...? Let's just not go there.
