The 黛烟 (Dai Yan) storyline drama in Girls' Frontline 2 was supposed to be over after the devs promised to fix things. But oh boy, the plot just thickened — and this time, the official team allegedly got their own hands dirty.
Let's rewind to the original "Mrs. Raymond" fiasco. A key character named Dai Yan had extensive flirty interactions with a male NPC called Raymond (雷蒙) in her personal storyline. Players blasted it as full-on NTR (netorare — basically watching your waifu get stolen by some random dude), which triggered a massive wave of ragequits. The devs promised to rewrite the storyline and things quieted down — for a while.
But freshly surfaced screenshots reveal that a new male character named Martin (马丁) has appeared in Dai Yan's storyline, seemingly filling the exact same role Raymond was supposed to play. In other words: same NTR energy, different name tag.

What really set the community on fire was this: the official Girls' Frontline 2 account allegedly posted content related to Dai Yan and Martin, then deleted it within seconds. A commenter (Floor 6) confirmed "the post vanished instantly." Quick-fingered players screenshotted everything, of course. The OP even taunted: 'Let me see when they'll pull their damage control stunt again' — referencing Sunborn's infamous habit of denying involvement whenever controversy hits.

The comments section became a roast session of epic proportions. The top-voted reply nailed it: 'Holy sh*t, we wronged Mrs. Raymond — it's Mrs. Martin now.' Floor 3 doubled down: 'I thought the problem was Raymond... turns out it was Martin all along?' Together, these two comments perfectly captured the collective bewilderment: they removed Raymond only to slot in Martin like nothing happened?
Floor 2 dropped the classic Sunborn playbook summary: 'As per tradition, ignore small dramas, stealth-patch during midnight when things blow up.' Old fans have this company's PR strategy figured out to a T. Floor 4 worried out loud: 'When they said they'd fix Dai Yan's storyline, they wouldn't just rename Raymond and sneak him back in, right?' — Well, that fear aged like fine wine.
One player asked the real question: 'So as long as his name isn't Raymond, he gets to join the party? Is this supposed to be pure love?' — The implication being clear: swapping Raymond for Martin changes nothing of substance. Dai Yan's relationship dynamics with male NPCs remain intact, just under a rebrand.

Floor 5 roasted: 'They're still pulling this shady stuff behind our backs — this is what simps get for their loyalty.' Floor 12 delivered the verdict: 'Going to war with your own players, huh? Those still playing are in for a treat.' Floor 13 was practically heartbroken: 'They're really doing this at a time like this? Do they WANT their game to die?'
Not everyone chose violence though. Some picked the chaotic good route. Floor 14 declared: 'I'm joining the Martin army. I've already picked my name: Noble Martin.' Floor 15 went full sarcastic stan mode: 'Dai Yan x Martin is sooo shippable!! I'm ALL IN!! Petition to rename her to Dai Yan Martin in-game!! DaiMartin forever!! I'm literally screaming!!' — weaponized irony at its finest, a true NGA art form.
Floor 16 probably spoke for every bystander: 'Leave it to Sunborn to dig themselves deeper at a time like this. I'm actually impressed.'

As of now, Sunborn has made no official statement regarding the Martin controversy. But if history is any guide, they'll most likely execute their signature 'stay silent → stealth-patch → pretend nothing happened' three-step playbook. Only this time, players have the Raymond precedent burned into their memories, and they're watching every move. As the OP prophetically wrote: 'Let me see when they'll pull their damage control stunt again.' — The real show? It's probably just getting started.
