You thought it was just Dai Yan (黛烟) with a secret star stamp? Think again — Sunborn devs have been quietly embedding personal star symbols (五角星) into MULTIPLE Girls' Frontline 2 character models. This isn't a one-off coincidence; it's a full-blown pattern.
The controversy exploded when a Bilibili content creator released a compilation video titled something along the lines of 'Girls' Frontline 2 — It's not just Dai Yan, ALL star-branded characters have been secretly marked.' The video (BV1Ue41117oh) systematically compares model textures across numerous characters, and the evidence is damning.

The screenshots reveal uniformly identical five-pointed star patterns appearing on multiple characters in various locations — clearly not an intentional design element, but what appears to be someone sneaking their personal 'watermark' into the game's art assets. The original poster's one-word verdict: 'Disgusting.'
The NGA comments section went absolutely feral. The first reply nailed it: 'Why is every character a star slave (星怒, a pun on the dev's nickname 星圣)? Long live Chong Star!' — directly calling out the developer known as 'Star Saint' for this obsessive branding. One commenter delivered a killer analogy: 'It feels like a dog peeing everywhere to mark its territory. Though if the game were actually good, it'd be like an artist hiding their signature in a masterpiece.' That metaphor was later quoted and weaponized by another reply: 'Star Saint IS the dog. Yu Zhong (the studio head) is the irresponsible owner who won't put a leash on it.'
Someone pulled up the character Lappi (拉毗) as further proof, captioning it with a simple 'Huh?' — the implication being that even background characters weren't spared. Their accompanying question hit hard: 'You're a grown adult — why are you still pulling this kind of cringe personal branding stunt?'

Another poster found similar markings on character Lightning (闪电) and quipped 'It's me again apparently,' with the screenshot as Exhibit D.

The most devastating comment came from a user who pointed out the real collateral damage: the '洗地' brigade (洗地 literally means 'mopping the floor' — Chinese internet slang for people who desperately defend the indefensible). 'I was just laughing at those copium huffers trying to explain away Dai Yan's star, and now every character has one. Their workload just went up tenfold.' Indeed, earlier defenders had tried to gaslight the community by claiming Dai Yan's star was just a coincidence or an in-universe design choice. With evidence now mounting across multiple characters, that defense has completely collapsed. Another user added that some desperate defenders tried to argue 'Lightning had stars since the original game' and 'Nagant also has star elements' — but even they admitted 'the star on Nagant's hat is suspiciously absent,' essentially conceding the argument couldn't hold water.
One commenter shifted the blame upward, writing: 'I actually feel bad for the rank-and-file devs now — being forced to stuff this personal agenda into their work every day.' The implication being this isn't some low-level artist's doing, but rather someone in a leadership position abusing their authority. Another had zero patience for nuance: 'How is this any different from those idiots who carve "Wuzi was here" at tourist sites? Both childish and braindead.'
One user went nuclear on the game's writer, calling them an 'international war criminal' and claiming that even this writer's infamously bad storytelling was nothing compared to the current crew's antics. Meanwhile, someone anticipated the next domino: 'If the G36 maid character also has one, even the most hardcore defenders are going to snap.'
As of now, Sunborn has issued zero official statements on this matter. But the community verdict is pretty unanimous: embedding personal brand marks into commercial game character models without players' knowledge is both disrespectful and a sign of deep management dysfunction at the studio. Whether this 'star storm' continues to escalate or Sunborn manages to sweep it under the rug remains to be seen — though given their track record, the smart money is on the latter.
