Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium just dropped another dumpster fire — and this time it's not the game designers or writers in the crosshairs, but an official artist. Players have dug up evidence that an artist nicknamed 'Potato Saint' (薯圣) has been pushing a G36×Springfield yuri ship in her personal fan art for years, and now that same pairing is allegedly bleeding into the game's actual storyline. In other words, the artist's personal headcanon is becoming official canon.
The original poster shared multiple screenshots with a sarcastic caption: 'G36 just can't forget about her Springfield waifu, huh.' The images show suggestive interactions between the two characters that the artist drew, raising questions about whether the official artist is smuggling personal fetish content into a product players paid for.

The comment section erupted immediately. The very first reply set the tone: 'Take this down already, it's disgusting. The drama board is for gossip, not for eating sh*t.' Another player confessed to being slowly desensitized: 'I followed her on Weibo years ago and didn't think much of these drawings — just thought they were for fun. Now I realize we were the frogs in the pot the whole time.'
The most heated debate centered on whether Potato Saint deserves all the blame. One lengthy defense in reply #6 argued: 'She doesn't deserve this. Whatever sins her yuri shipping has, it's nothing compared to the team lead called "Star" (星组长) who stacked controversy after controversy, gave the T-Dolls random male love interests, and single-handedly destroyed the IP's value. Going after Potato Saint while Star gets away scot-free? I don't buy it.' This take got immediately dogpiled — someone replied 'Good, hope you and Potato Saint are locked together forever,' while another asked 'If this were a Chinese otome game, an artist who makes their headcanon ship official would've been fired by now.'
As for the 'artists have creative freedom to draw fan art' defense, reply #16 cut straight through the BS: 'Private headcanons are literally becoming canon — two characters who were canonically into the Commander are now a lesbian couple, and you're telling me this isn't official? Who's buying that?' Reply #17 took a business angle: 'Whatever you create, players paid for it — it's a product. You need to maintain boundaries and avoid this kind of confusion. But some people see characters getting loved by players and start projecting themselves onto those characters, fantasizing that the players love THEM too.'
Notably, the comments kept circling back to another creative lead known as 'Star' — allegedly an even bigger problem than Potato Saint, someone who 'gave the T-Dolls random boyfriends everywhere' and is blamed for single-handedly tanking the entire franchise. Players compared the two controversies and concluded that yuri shipping is merely 'the less smelly of two piles of sh*t.' The exhaustion and despair among GLF2 veterans is palpable — one commenter even quipped 'I wasted years of my life on Girls' Frontline, but hey, at least I'm having fun with Beautiful Fox Fairy now,' signaling they've finally ragequit for good.
