The writing team at Girls' Frontline 2 just can't catch a break — or rather, they keep catching fire. This time, the controversy centers on character DP12 (Lin Xian'er), whose original storyline has been dug up by players and confirmed to contain romantic subtext. The devs revised it, but shockingly, the revision only made things worse. Community meltdown incoming.

Screenshots shared by the original poster clearly show flirtatious dialogue lines from DP12's first-draft storyline. The poster's take? 'I actually preferred the old Lin Xian'er — why change it?' The implication is that while the original was at least entertaining, the revision is just awkward and hollow. Other players piled on, pointing out that character 416 seems to have similar issues: 'So 416 has her own personal life too now?'

The comment section came in hot. One player cut straight to the bone: 'Whether it's the Raymond storyline or the DP12 storyline — who is this even supposed to serve? Do they really expect players to whale for this?' Raymond was a previous writing controversy in GFL2, so drawing that comparison signals that players see this as a pattern, not a one-off.
As for the 'who is this serving' question, a top-voted reply laid it bare: 'They're serving themselves — the writers are just writing for their own enjoyment. Swap the protagonist for DP12 and it all makes sense: same energy as a certain strong-female-lead show. She's the real main character, and everyone else including the crippled Commander is just her simp.' The term 'crippled Commander' (瘸指) is player slang mocking how the player character is basically useless in the story.
Another commenter added: 'This is obviously a storyline tailor-made for [Writer A] and [Writer B] to live out their fantasy. [Writer A] loves that edgy-dark cringe, and [Writer B] gets off on inserting themselves as the strong female lead who backstabs the player. Absolute copium.' — These nicknames allegedly refer to key members of the writing team, and players believe the narrative direction caters to the writers' personal tastes rather than the playerbase.
Some responded with bitter sarcasm: 'Why not go all in? Make DP12 a double agent who's been undercover next to the Commander for 10 years, and she actually helped orchestrate the Commander's exile.' This dark humor speaks volumes about how completely players have lost faith in the current storyline direction.

It doesn't stop at DP12 either. Over on the general discussion board, players are also flagging CZ75's storyline for similar issues — allegedly involving a father-daughter romantic angle, though the screenshots are too blurry to confirm. The fact that multiple characters are catching fire suggests this isn't an isolated incident but a systemic problem with GFL2's writing direction.

One player summed it up perfectly: 'Each revision is worse than the last. What's the point of a V2? Is this supposed to save the game? If they'd just shipped V1, the engagement would've come naturally.' — 'Crawl Away' (龟放, a derogatory pun on the game's subtitle 追放/Zhuifang) has become the community's go-to nickname for GFL2. Across the board, players consider both the original and revised versions to be absolute disasters. As for someone in the thread leaking that character 95 might get a wedding skin — given the current mood, that's unlikely to generate any positive hype whatsoever.
