The writers at Girls' Frontline 2 probably never imagined that a single throwaway dialogue line could be interpreted with 18 layers of subtext by the community — and not a single layer is wholesome.
Here's what happened: In the latest story chapter, T-doll Daiyan (黛烟) wakes up from a repair pod, and another character mentions she was 'saved by a commander.' Daiyan, suffering from amnesia, responds with a vague remark about this 'commander.' On paper, it's standard gacha story exposition. In practice? Players read it and went: 'Oh no, not again.'

Context matters here: GF2 has already been through a massive NTR (netorare/cuckolding) controversy involving a male NPC named Raymond (雷蒙), who became a meme in the community as '热心市民雷蒙' (Helpful Citizen Raymond). So when Daiyan casually drops the word 'commander,' the community's immediate interpretation was: during her 20 years as a 'wild T-doll' (在野武将, i.e., operating independently without a master), just how many 'commanders' has she cycled through?
The NGA comment section instantly transformed into a shitposting warzone. One user cryptically said 'those who know, know' (懂得都懂). Another feigned shock: 'Wait, she had MORE than one?!' Then came the devastating zinger: 'You thought Raymond was test-driving a factory-fresh Type 95, but turns out the mileage might be way higher than advertised.' The implication? Daiyan's 'service history' probably needs its own spreadsheet.
One legendary commenter wrote an entire NTR doujin plot summary: 'Raymond got cucked so hard — first some bully stole his wife, then they chopped off his manhood, and now he finds out his wife was already... used goods.' This masterpiece of a roast resonated so hard that someone added a sequel: 'Raymond got NTR'd, his wife got corrupted by the villain, and he himself got gender-bent — textbook heavy gacha plot development.'

To be fair, a few voices of reason did try to break through. One player (comment #16) analyzed that 'commander' in the game's lore likely refers specifically to the protagonist, so Daiyan's line probably just means she was rescued by the main character. But given the accumulated trust deficit from previous story controversies, this rational take was basically a whisper drowned out by a hurricane of memes.
Others took direct aim at lead writer Yu Zhong (羽中): 'Yu Zhong, you're too good at this — just how many hands has she been through? Why are you so experienced? 20 years, Daiyan, HOW MANY?!' — a direct riff on the classic NTR meme template. Someone else delivered the killing blow with a simple 'I mean, she WAS a free-agent T-doll for 20 years...' Concise. Brutal. Maximum damage.
At the end of the day, this 'Commandergate' didn't blow up because one line of dialogue was inherently problematic. It exploded because GF2's previous narrative choices had already planted so many landmines in the playerbase's psyche. Every new story beat is salt on an open wound. The writers intended a touching reunion for an amnesiac character; what the players read was a 20-volume memoir of romantic misadventures.
