Genshin Variety Show Plasters Ex-Couple's Romance as Marketing Hook — Community Erupts Over Cringe Timing

0 热度

Genshin Impact, you truly have no fear when it comes to wild ideas. A variety show tied to the game recently hit trending — not because it was good, but because the 'lovey-dovey' couple featured in it have already broken up in spectacular fashion IRL. Meanwhile, the official promo is still using taglines like 'Sweet Clash' and 'True Love Confession' as if nothing happened. The irony writes itself.

The main characters are streamer Shuye (树叶) and his now-ex girlfriend Xiaobai (小白), nicknamed 'Auntie Bai' (白姨) by fans. This couple was well-known in both the Honor of Kings streaming circle and the Genshin community, jokingly called the 'Genshin Husband-and-Wife' (原神夫妇) — essentially fulfilling every otaku's fantasy of landing a gorgeous cosplay wife.

But the fairy tale didn't last. In late July, things went sideways: Xiaobai's bestie publicly accused Shuye's buddy Ji Ran (寂然) of all sorts of terrible behavior in the romance department (though the claims remain unverified). Shuye chose to back his girlfriend, essentially stabbing his own bro in the back — and ended up getting heat from both sides. By October, the couple officially announced their breakup, with Shuye going on a drunken meltdown livestream that was painful to watch.

Here's the kicker: the Genshin variety show was filmed while they were still together, but it aired after their very public split. Even worse, the official promos kept using titles dripping with romantic sweetness — 'Sweet Clash,' 'Overflowing Care,' 'True Love Confession' — as if absolutely nothing had changed.

When the news broke, the community went nuclear. Some defended the move: 'You guys treat anything even tangentially related to miHoYo as drama? People who get divorced still make videos together — what's the big deal about a breakup?' But other players immediately hit back: 'That's a false equivalence. These two were still together when they filmed it, but now that they've split, miHoYo is still using "Sweet Clash" and "True Love Confession" as promo titles — and you think that's fine? This isn't the same as Wang Shifu and Xiaomaomao (a famous divorced content creator couple who kept collaborating).'

Some players said they didn't even know Genshin had a variety show: 'Today is literally the first time I've heard of this — if it weren't for this unhinged trending topic, I'd have had no clue miHoYo was running a variety show.' Others in the comments dug up the couple's legendary infamy tags — 'Genshin Husband-and-Wife,' plus some far more colorful and NSFW nicknames that have become internet archaeology at this point.

As for Shuye's reputation, it was already in shambles. Insider sources claimed he'd been 'blindly hyping Genshin while trashing Honor of Kings' — behavior that got him effectively blacklisted from the King of Glory streaming community. During the recent Dream Star (元梦之星) promotion campaign, three controversial streamers on Huya's HoK section didn't get sponsorship deals, and Shuye was one of them. Truly the art of burning bridges on both sides.

And the story isn't over yet. The original poster updated that Shuye announced he'd be going live the next day for a public 'confrontation stream' — meaning this circus is far from wrapping up.

TL;DR: A collapsed romance, a tone-deaf variety show rollout, suspiciously romantic promo copy, and a confrontation stream still incoming — Genshin's variety show has truly delivered peak entertainment, just not the kind miHoYo probably intended.
