If someone told you that a self-sacrificing Wind God who once gave up everything to protect humanity has been redrawn as a pink-haired femboy in black stockings — would you believe it? That's exactly the gut punch Onmyoji Card Game (百闻牌) just delivered to long-time Ichimokuren fans.
The recent Onmyoji community drama traces back to a faction known as "momo" fans (嬷嬷) — CP-obsessed shippers who fetishize feminizing male characters — gaining outsized influence over the main game's art direction. As the original Onmyoji's art quality tanked, desperate players flocked to the card game's Weibo page, begging its supposedly superior art team to take over the franchise's visuals.

Well, the card game delivered — by faceplanting spectacularly. In the latest update, Onmyoji Card Game revealed a reimagined card art for Ichimokuren, a classic shikigami from the original game. Their "creative interpretation" of the Wind God promptly blew up the entire community.
The new art dials the femboy aesthetic up to eleven — pink color palette, waifish build, the works. Many players genuinely thought it was a female character at first glance. One commenter quipped: "The pink is so intense I thought this was a new SP season reveal... then I looked closer and... Onmyoji Card Game, what are you doing?" Another asked bluntly: "The body proportions in that lower image are so bizarre — is this not just momo energy leaking out?"

To be fair, this isn't the first time Ichimokuren has gotten controversial art. The original poster notes that the Japanese server previously released even more provocative illustrations of the character, so while shocking, this latest reveal isn't entirely out of left field.
The Ichimokuren stans (连厨) in the comments are absolutely devastated. One veteran player wrote emotionally: "Back when I played Onmyoji, Ichimokuren had such a great impression — a self-sacrificing deity who protects humans, with the thickest shields in both Onmyoji and Onmyoji MOBA. Sure, the lore says he shrank after losing his divine power, but he was still the Wind God — doesn't this art kind of miss the gravitas of a deity?"
Other takes were far more scathing: "It's ugly. First, it's way too feminine — completely divorced from the character design. Second, even ignoring the lore, it's still ugly. Even if I were into femboys, I wouldn't like this one." Another hit the nail on the head: "Feminizing male characters through momo art is peak trash taste. The SP Kuroiden (SP苍连) mature design was RIGHT THERE and it looked amazing."
The most heated reactions didn't hold back either: "Uninstalling Onmyoji Card Game right now. Been playing since launch as an Ichimokuren main — I simply cannot accept this" / "What in the effeminate death-Barbie-pink is this? You can't seriously think this looks good" / "Why is every game selling uwu softboy bait now" / "The momo fans have conquered Onmyoji" — the roasting was relentless and multifaceted.
For now, this Ichimokuren redesign has reignited the entire community's fury over the "momo-fication" (嬷化) of Onmyoji's art direction. When fans pinned their hopes on the card game's art team to save the franchise and instead got an even MORE aggressive femboy makeover — well, the higher the expectations, the harder the fall. Will Ichimokuren mains ever get an illustration worthy of the Wind God's legacy? Don't hold your breath.
