Justice Online Mobile Denies Buying Trends Amidst Backlash from 'Aquatic' Fandoms

0 热度

Recently, Justice Online Mobile found itself in a PR mess due to a bizarre trending topic. A user identifying as a 'Gui' (a slang term for shippers of actors Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan, originating from 'turtle' as a pun) staged an in-game reenactment of the popular drama 'The Untamed', which inadvertently hit the Weibo trending list. Justice Online players were furious, accusing the developers of buying the trend to gain exposure.

Facing intense backlash, the game developers quickly issued an official statement denying any paid promotion. To appease the community, they took drastic measures by banning 'Aquatic' fans from their social forums—referring to 'Shrimp' (Xiao Zhan fans), 'Turtles' (the aforementioned shippers), and 'Mao' (fans of the original author Mo Xiang Tong Xiu). The original poster has since deleted their content and demanded a refund.

The community response has been largely one of amusement. Many players noted that NetEase always seems to find new, unpredictable ways to spark drama. Meanwhile, confused onlookers received quick tutorials from fellow gamers to decipher the niche slang used by Chinese fandom subcultures.
