Muse Dash Under Fire: Allegations of Exploiting Art Students for Free Labor

0 热度

Recently, a user identifying as a core artist from the second generation of Muse Dash's startup team (MOCHIPU) exposed the dark history of the game's early development. According to the post, the game originated as a student graduation project, but after the lead programmer and the studio parted ways, the original art and development team left as well.

The whistle-blower alleges that the studio continued to use the students' artistic assets for commercial purposes without any salary or copyright buyout. Later, the studio allegedly recruited younger students to work on 'Muse Dash 2' under the guise of graduation projects, providing only meals in exchange for full game assets. These students were kept in the dark about the game's release and commercialization plans. Even after the game hit Steam, there were no negotiations regarding copyright or compensation. Both the first and second generation art leads were students from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA), and early versions were even displayed at school exhibitions.

The community response has been furious, with many users questioning the studio's ethics. Comments range from shock at the level of exploitation to suggestions that the affected students take legal action, though some skeptically note that legal battles are time-consuming and often result in little beyond the base compensation. Many express sympathy for the students, calling it a 'Cyber-honey-trap' where players’ money ended up funding a project built on unfair labor.
