A recent report from Sensor Tower highlights the stellar financial performance of Honkai: Star Rail. Since its launch in April, the mobile version of this space-faring RPG raked in $500 million globally by July. Bolstered by two major version updates, it has achieved the highest revenue growth in 2023.

China remains the top market, accounting for 38% of total revenue, followed by Japan (25%), the US (13%), and South Korea (7%).

The report notes that in terms of revenue growth from January to July 2023, the game holds the top spot, outperforming the runner-up, Eggy Party, by a factor of two.

Furthermore, the game's arrival has reshaped the revenue mix for its developer, miHoYo. Before Star Rail's launch, Genshin Impact accounted for 90% of the company's mobile revenue; post-launch, Star Rail captured 64%, while Genshin's share dropped to 32%.

The community's response has been mixed. While some are impressed, many users questioned the validity of the "growth" metrics, noting that the game started from zero. Others mocked the chart design, which displayed cumulative revenue to create a look of constant upward momentum—prompting comments like "Of course it's rising, it's cumulative! Who designs a chart where cumulative totals go down?"
