Recently, NetEase's ThunderFire Studio officially unveiled its new urban-themed open-world RPG, 'Project Mugen'. The game is set to launch on PS5, mobile, PC, and cloud platforms, aiming to deliver a cross-platform anime-style open-world experience.

Based on the initial reveal, the community has nicknamed it 'Anime GTA' due to its clear stylistic comparisons. The dynamic demos showcased high-fidelity visuals and an immersive city life, leading many to eagerly demand an early release.

Despite the impressive visuals, player feedback is divided. While some are excited by the high quality, skeptics recall NetEase's previous track record with 'open-world' titles (such as the 'A Certain Magical Index' mobile game) and question whether the high-end graphics can truly perform on mobile hardware. Concerns regarding development timelines and the risk of the project being canceled (often referred to in the Chinese community as 'eating the pie,' meaning waiting for a promised project that might never materialize) are also trending topics.
