A cringe-worthy 'plagiarism investigation' recently unfolded in the subculture gaming community. The official account of 'Wochuan Fenghualu' posted a video on TikTok accusing 'Yaoguanglu' of copying their character designs. However, sharp-eyed netizens quickly debunked the claim: the character comparison showed that Yaoguanglu had released their illustration as early as 2021, whereas Wochuan released theirs only this past January. This 'time-traveling' accusation backfired instantly.
Facing the backlash, Yaoguanglu issued a statement telling the accuser: 'If you have actual proof, go to court instead of manipulating players.' Wochuan initially added a disclaimer to their video, then deleted it and blocked several fans who had been defending them. Nevertheless, the chaos continued. On August 12th, the Wochuan team doubled down, stating, 'Even if there was one mistake, the other plagiarism claims cannot be ignored.' Yaoguanglu retorted, 'A farce, shame on them for involving the players.'
Within the community, players mocked the developers, asking, 'Didn't you check the timeline before posting?' Some pointed out that since Wochuan is part of the NetEase ecosystem, such aggressive and poorly researched maneuvers are perhaps 'not surprising' to those familiar with their past reputation.
