The 4th Anniversary of 'Shining Nikki' has triggered a massive backlash in the gaming community. Given the game's dependence on 'set parts + cards + memory echoes' for power, the developer's greedy tactics infuriated veteran spenders. Players discovered that core components of the Nightmare set were sliced off to be sold as 'Cumulative Recharge' rewards (a P2W incentive), leaving the original in-game set looking incomplete, with flavor text that no longer makes sense.

Furthermore, another brilliant set was suspected of having its color palette 'gutted' for the highest-tier recharge reward. The rainbow colors shown in the promotional materials were downgraded to dull white in-game, with the original vibrant version effectively gated behind a massive paywall—a move described as 'deceptive' by the community.

The most fatal blow came from the rushed, poorly implemented dye system. Due to a lack of actual 3D modeling for textures, the dye feature functions like a 'paint bucket' tool, often destroying original designs and lighting effects. This exposed a long-hidden secret: the costume details in Shining Nikki are largely painted-on textures rather than actual 3D modeled geometry. To make matters worse, Papergames' indifferent response to players who accidentally spent their resources due to a flawed UI—only offering refunds to 'whales' (ultra-high spenders)—has completely alienated the player base.

Players are sarcastically calling this anniversary a 'funeral.' The developer's lack of technical competence and their decision to release half-baked content while cutting corners have led many to lose faith in the once-leading title, especially as competitors continue to raise the bar.
