Following the Tears of Themis 3rd anniversary livestream, the reveal of four SSS-rank cards sparked a massive community firestorm. Players quickly realized the new acquisition mechanics were essentially a disguised price hike for the game’s core collectibles.
The controversy stems from several changes: the pull rate for featured cards dropped from 1.0% to 0.8%; previous rewards like character keepsakes, once granted upon pulling the card, now require 100 pulls; and most critically, interactive content is now gated behind 'star-merging' (dupes). To fully unlock a character's interactive features, a player would theoretically need 5 copies (500 pulls).

In response to the backlash, the developers issued a 'compromise proposal' on July 16, which included lowering the pull threshold for basic interactions and reverting some reward mechanics. Despite this, community sentiment remains divided. Fans pointed out that the system disproportionately punishes mid-range spenders, with one player calculating that to get all desired character rewards, they would need 14 copies—a cost they find impossible to justify.
