Harry Potter: Magic Awakened has pulled a classic 'stab in the back' move. Players were accustomed to using 'Star Stones' (the in-game currency) for all purchases, including cosmetics and the monthly 'Homework Gift Box' (Battle Pass).

However, a June 26th announcement suddenly changed the Battle Pass purchase method to direct fiat currency (RMB). Players realized that their previously purchased Star Stones could no longer be used for their primary monthly requirement, effectively turning their balance into 'trapped capital' usable only for unwanted bundles.

The outrage stems from the fact that just two weeks prior, the dev team held a massive 'double recharge' event. Many players stocked up on currency, assuming it would be spent on future subscriptions. Now that the currency is rendered ineffective for the pass, many feel swindled. Players are currently tagging consumer protection agencies to file complaints.

The community response has been scathing. Long-term players noted that the developer had previously shut down their account trading platform (Cangbaoge) under the guise of maintenance, effectively preventing players from selling their accounts and quitting. As one user aptly put it: 'It's a NetEase game; this kind of behavior is standard, not surprising.'
