Recently, the developers of 'Onmyoji Arena' proposed an 'optimization' to their 'Daruma' gacha system, sparking massive backlash from the game's biggest spenders, known as 'Whales'. The system is the primary way to obtain 'Collector's Skins'. Historically, whales have been able to efficiently obtain these skins by converting duplicate pulls into high amounts of currency, a standard practice for high-spending players.

However, the new proposal aims to lower the barrier for newcomers to obtain skins by increasing the guaranteed currency from pulls, while simultaneously slashing the currency refund value for duplicate skins by half. For veteran players who have already invested heavily, this means their existing 'Collector's skins' are devalued, and their future costs will increase. Many players view this as a direct 'backstab' from the developers.

The community response has been furious. Players have criticized the developer, NetEase, for its lack of respect toward its most profitable player base and its history of 'stealth nerfs' (adjusting drop rates without notice). In the comments, users sarcastically suggested the developers should just issue refund links to whales, questioning the logic of sacrificing long-term supporters just to attract new users—a move many believe will only hasten the game's decline.
