Bilibili-published Indie Game 'Neon Sequence' Abruptly Shut Down: Official Denials Followed by Sudden Cancellation

0 热度

Recently, the buy-to-play roguelike indie game 'Neon Sequence', published by Bilibili, announced its sudden cancellation with no prior warning. Notably, the official team had just dismissed rumors of the project being scrapped and released an update shortly before, making this 'denial followed by instant death' scenario a massive slap in the face to paying players.

As news of the game 'ji-le' (slang for 'dead' or 'shutdown') spread, the gaming community erupted in frustration. Many players vented that they had just recommended the game to friends, only to be 'backstabbed' by the developers. The publisher, Bilibili, faces massive backlash, with players declaring they will avoid any video or promotional content featuring the company's logo in the future, with many feeling like a 'clown' for trusting the publisher.

The community dived deep into why the project failed: beyond complaints about repetitive gameplay and a grindy progression system, there were concerns that the team never truly understood the difference between a standalone PC game and a mobile game. From the start, users suspected it was a mobile project forced onto PC after failing to obtain a publishing license (ISBN). Most insultingly, content creators were still promoting the game during discount livestreams right before the announcement, a move widely criticized as 'harvesting leeks' (fleecing the customer base).

This debacle has decimated consumer confidence in Early Access (EA) titles from local developers and further tarnished Bilibili's reputation as a publisher. Hardcore gamers are now lamenting that one must avoid not only 'B-servers' for mobile games but now even indie titles under their publishing banner.
