Recently, players noticed highly unusual fluctuations in the follower count of the official Genshin Impact Weibo account. Despite being active for nearly three years, the account gained nearly one million followers in just one week, sparking intense discussion. While some speculated this might be related to collaborations or new updates, many were skeptical about the authenticity of these numbers.

However, the 'rollercoaster' effect soon became evident. From May 29th, the growth rate plummeted, eventually shifting into a decline by early June. Data shows that while the account hit 10.01 million followers on June 1st, it quickly dropped back to 9.999 million by the night of June 3rd.

The community is divided on the matter. Some point out the prevalence of 'bot' accounts on Weibo—where inactive accounts are often forced to follow others automatically—while others bluntly claim it was a case of 'buying followers' (purchasing fake followers to boost engagement metrics). Others noted that official Weibo promotional support often results in a surge of low-quality, non-active followers, rendering the official count largely meaningless.
