MTG Drama: Wizards of the Coast Hires Private Investigators to 'Raid' Leaker

0 热度

The drama unfolds in the Magic: The Gathering (MtG) community: Wizards of the Coast (WotC) hired the infamous Pinkerton Detective Agency—known in history and games like Red Dead Redemption 2 for their anti-labor brutality—to 'pay a visit' to a leaker.

A YouTuber known as 'Oldschoolmtg' accidentally received unreleased 'March of the Machine: The Aftermath' boosters due to a shipping error by a distributor who mixed up product names. The creator filmed an unboxing video, which led to a team of private investigators showing up at his door.

According to the creator, the agents demanded the return of the 'stolen' goods, intimidating his family and leaving his wife in tears. While WotC later offered an apology and minor compensation, the decision to send armed agents to a private home instead of sending a formal legal notice has triggered massive backlash.

The community remains divided. Many call this a classic PR disaster, noting that WotC turned themselves from victims into aggressors through extreme overreach. Some commentators noted that the YouTuber was clearly chasing clout with the leak, yet others argued that while leaks are a 'traditional' part of MtG history, such an aggressive crackdown was completely disproportionate and tone-deaf.
