Developer Fiasco: A Power-Creep Bait Character Becomes a F2P God, Humiliating Whales

0 热度

Recently, a popular turn-based card game based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms IP has sparked a massive controversy due to a disastrous design choice by its developers. The game relies heavily on 'Power Creep' to maintain revenue, specifically through the release of new 'Soul Characters.' However, the debut of the latest soul character, Sun Ce, has completely shattered the game's competitive ecosystem.

Sun Ce’s mechanics are hilariously counter-intuitive: his power scales with his own death and resurrection, as well as the 'burn' (DoT) status on enemies. This creates a scenario where lower-stat players actually perform better, leading to absurd instances where a 3-billion-power account dominates a 20-billion-power whale. This has turned high-spending 'Whales' (the core revenue source) into stepping stones, causing immense frustration as they lose matches to low-investment players due to RNG.

Faced with backlash from their biggest spenders, the developers have been frantically 'hotfixing' the game with disastrous results. They introduced new pets to force characters to commit suicide to normalize the turn order, which only triggered more bugs and new imbalances, leading to constant rollbacks and redesigns. From late March through April, the constant tinkering has made the meta increasingly chaotic.

Commenters in the community summarized the situation perfectly: it is a lose-lose-lose scenario. The Whales are furious about losing their advantage, veteran 'Burn-team' enthusiasts feel their investment was rendered worthless by how easy the character is to use, and only the casual F2P players are enjoying the chaos. Many players now speculate that this blatant, forced power-creep strategy is a sign that the game is approaching its sunset phase.
