Arknights: CN Server's Item Bundles Trigger Outrage Among JP Players, Blu-ray Sales Face 'Backstab'

0 热度

A recent operational decision in the game 'Arknights' has caused quite a stir within the community. The conflict began when the Japanese server planned to release a Blu-ray (BD) box set, priced at roughly 1,500 RMB, which included exclusive in-game items like skins and avatars. However, during the CN server's New Year livestream, the developer Hypergryph decided to sell these same items as affordable in-game bundles, estimated to be under 200 RMB.

This discrepancy triggered an immediate backlash (referred to as 'yan-shang' or 'flaming' in the community) among Japanese players who felt that the exclusivity and value of their high-priced BD purchases were being compromised. Under pressure, the publisher Yostar (YSP) was forced to offer refunds for pre-ordered BDs and promised that the items would eventually be available via in-game bundles in the JP version as well.

Community members have weighed in, noting that the Chinese market lacks a strong culture of buying expensive anime Blu-rays, making a 1,000+ RMB price tag a hard sell. Others highlighted the internal conflict: the revenue from in-game bundles goes directly to the developer, while BD sales benefit the publisher. Many view this move as a 'backstab' to the publisher, as it significantly undermines the sales performance of the physical products.
