A heated controversy has erupted between Chinese developer Youzu and Disney regarding their 'Star Wars' IP partnership. According to court documents, Youzu alleged that Disney intentionally delayed development and then unilaterally terminated the agreement—despite Youzu completing the game—by claiming a failure to release on schedule. Ultimately, the court dismissed Youzu's case, stating that the contract requires disputes to be settled via the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC).

The saga dates back to 2019, when Youzu held a grand promotional event at ChinaJoy featuring the largest gathering of the '501st Legion' in Asia. However, the anticipated press conference was abruptly canceled, leaving media attendees empty-handed. Analysts note that Disney's general licensing strategy is quite open—even for indie studios—making the failure of this collaboration particularly noteworthy.
The community response has been brutal. Players mocked Youzu's track record, with some even jokingly suggesting the cancellation of this event inadvertently pushed media to check out 'Genshin Impact' instead. Others pointed out that both companies have tarnished reputations, viewing this fallout as a clash between a desperate licensee and an increasingly unreachable IP giant.
