Recently, the mobile game 'Alchemy Stars' sparked significant debate within the community after raising prices for in-game purchases on the Japanese server. The move stems from Apple's update to its global pricing tier strategy, which required developers to hike prices in several regions. Players on the NGA forums criticized the move as 'paying more for the same amount'—a move they sarcastically compared to Nintendo's pricing strategy.

Public opinion has been harsh. Many players pointed out that this approach is unfriendly to consumers. To make matters worse, the developer launched a limited-time 'cumulative recharge' event simultaneously. Since the bonus rewards were perceived as meager, players mocked it, claiming the developers were just trying to raise the spending barrier without providing real value.

Discussions also touched upon whether Tencent—the publisher—is taking advantage of players. Some compared their strategy to other games, questioning why 'Alchemy Stars' hiked prices even for the highest tiers, while other titles chose to keep them stable to protect whales. Screenshots provided by users show that some tiers were hiked by thousands of Yen, which felt excessive to the player base.
