Is the C-Drama 'Love Between Fairy and Devil' Click-Baiting Honor of Kings? The 'Walking Chicken' Controversy

0 热度

Recently, the hit Chinese drama 'Love Between Fairy and Devil' sparked backlash from the 'Honor of Kings' player community. The conflict started because the hero 'Yunzhongjun' in the game is colloquially known as the 'Walking Chicken' (zou di ji) due to his landing animation. The show's marketing team then purchased a Weibo hot search topic titled 'Yunzhongjun - Walking Chicken', causing outrage.

The comment section quickly turned into a battlefield. Honor of Kings players accused the show of click-baiting by leveraging the game's established nickname, while fans of the show argued that they were simply playing along with a meme, claiming that 'double fans' (fans of both the game and the show) found it harmless.

Netizens have expressed that this situation is a legal gray area. Since 'Yunzhongjun' is a historical figure and 'Walking Chicken' is just a community-generated slang term (essentially, a 'meme'), there is no intellectual property protection involved. Players feel helpless, describing it as 'shameless clout-chasing' that they simply have to endure.

Interestingly, the comment section became even more volatile due to 'neutral' users or 'double fans' urging others to 'be more broad-minded' and arguing that 'exposure helps the game grow.' These comments, which many active players view as gaslighting or insincere, only added fuel to the fire, turning the discussion into a heated clash between loyal gamers and show defenders.
