[NetEase] Rumor: Blizzard and NetEase's World of Warcraft Mobile Project Cancelled

0 热度

According to a Bloomberg report, the World of Warcraft mobile project, co-developed by Blizzard and NetEase for three years, has been officially cancelled. The game was designed as an MMORPG set in the Warcraft universe but at a different timeline than the PC version. Reports indicate that NetEase has disbanded the team of over 100 developers. The project was shelved due to fundamental disagreements between the two companies regarding project direction and revenue distribution. Furthermore, Blizzard also scrapped a Pokémon GO-style game codenamed 'Orbis', which had been in development for over four years.

The news triggered heated discussions within the gaming community. Many spectators speculated that the 'revenue sharing deal' (a common point of contention in Chinese business gossip) fell through, with many agreeing that this was the most likely cause for the collapse. Some players mocked the potential quality, suggesting it would likely be another reskinned NetEase-style MMO, similar to their previous collaborative efforts. Others lamented the fate of the Warcraft IP, wondering if it now relies solely on Warcraft Rumble. Meanwhile, some long-time fans expressed a sense of resignation, arguing that given Blizzard's recent decline, it might be better for the project to die rather than risk tarnishing the franchise's reputation.
