The summer season in Granblue Fantasy (GBF) is always intense. Beyond the usual welfare events and roadmap reveals, 'Summer Flaming' (炎上, meaning a massive public outcry) has become an unwanted tradition. This year, the developers pulled out all the stops to anger their player base.
First came the infuriating summer event story. Instead of the usual beach vacation theme, players were treated to an nonsensical school bullying arc. The cool antagonists were downgraded to petty middle-school bullies, while the protagonist spent the event enduring abuse, only for the entire plot to be revealed as a 'heatstroke dream.' This nonsensical plot twist, which felt like bad fanfiction, left both domestic and international fans dumbfounded.

In a desperate attempt to distance the game from an ongoing offline event, the developers actually hotfixed the game to rename a boss’s skill, displaying a comical level of 'covering one's ears while stealing a bell' (掩耳盗铃, trying to deceive oneself).

The second debacle involved the 'Consolation Rewards' (敢斗报酬). After hyping up a compensation mechanic for failing high-difficulty raids, the developers immediately backtracked on the night of release, claiming the high-end raid (Super Bahamut) was excluded due to a 'typo' in the announcement. This effectively made clowns out of the content creators who had just released guides.

The saga continued on August 6th when a bug caused rare 'Sunstones' (金刚晶) to be distributed twice. The developers responded with emergency maintenance, threatening to delete the items and ban the accounts of players who had already used them. They eventually buckled under pressure, allowing players to keep the items while replacing future rewards, turning the whole situation into a total farce.

Commenting observers summed it up perfectly: this is just the classic GBF management style, pushing the boundaries of player patience every single summer.
