Obi Island Mobile Drama: Accusations of Predatory Gacha Mechanics and Backlash over Official Compensation

0 热度

Recently, the mobile game 'Obi Island' has faced a massive backlash over the gacha mechanics in its first major event, the 'Interstellar Tournament.' Players are reporting a predatory 'mixed pool' that combines male/female outfits with furniture, resulting in high duplication rates. Despite a 'pity' mechanic after 14 pulls, the return on value for duplicate items is insultingly low, leading to widespread player frustration.

Faced with high-spending players (often called 'Whales' in gaming slang) quitting the game, the developers issued a desperate 'kowtow' (apology) notice: compensation involves self-selected items for those under 150 pulls, and free currency refunds for those over. This move backfired, as it was perceived as favoring F2P players while punishing big spenders. Community forums are flooded with complaints, with some mocking how they’ve acquired so many duplicate accessories that their home decor now resembles a 'train station.'

Beyond the gacha, the game faces systemic criticism: unfair distribution of paid currency, a restrictive stamina system, and a pet-catching system lacking any pity mechanics. Users have also mocked the developers for labeling minor color swaps or angle changes of existing items as 'new content,' labeling the design quality as extremely lazy.

In the comment threads, players are calling the event a 'Whale Torture Pool.' Many feel the drop rates for rare items are intentionally obfuscated. Other users pointed out the difficulty of competing in the in-game market for raw materials and criticized the 'pseudo-random' nature of the pulls, leading many to conclude that spending money on this game is a 'clown move.'
