Gossip: Arcaea's Heroine 'Deletion' Incident - A Controversial 'Ninth Art' Experiment

As a representative of the 'Ninth Art' in mobile rhythm games, 'Arcaea' pulled a stunt that stunned the community. The two leading ladies, Hikari and Tairitsu, have been frenemies since launch, but in the 4.0 update, Hikari killed off Tairitsu. The developer didn't stop at narrative text; they executed a full-scale digital erasure: the app icon, splash screens, and even the characters, costumes, and music tracks associated with Tairitsu were completely locked and inaccessible.

While such risks might be accepted in standalone titles, in a live-service mobile game, deleting assets that players had grinded for or paid for felt like a major 'backstab'. Players were furious, criticizing the developers (affectionately referred to by their internal shorthand '616') for such an extreme move, noting that deleting these assets is equivalent to losing your favorite units in games like FGO or Honkai Impact 3rd.

However, the situation resolved after a week, which fans joked was the 'seventh day' of the character's death. The developers released a new update allowing players to choose to 'resurrect' Tairitsu through a branching path. Once chosen, all assets were restored, and the UI returned to normal with themes of the two characters together. While the outcome was optional, this week-long 'narrative experiment' certainly left the player base in a state of shock.
