Recently, Riot Games announced that due to global inflation, currency fluctuations, and rising operational costs, they would be increasing the prices of RP and TFT Coins starting August 19th. The average price hike in North America is approximately 9.8%.

Tencent, the operator of the Chinese server, quickly followed suit. They announced that prices for Legendary skins, Epic skins, and Battle Passes in the CN region would all increase by 10 RMB. This decision triggered widespread backlash in the gaming community.

The community reaction has been overwhelmingly negative. Many casual players have vowed to stop spending entirely. Others questioned the logic of Riot's 'fair pricing' argument, accusing the company of using inflation as a cover for pure profit-seeking. Critical comments pointed out that while Riot claims rising development costs, Tencent’s decision to follow suit feels like a blatant cash grab, mocking the phrase 'synchronizing with the world' as a convenient excuse for exploitative business practices.
